We promise to ALWAYS be:
Ingredients you see in top performing "cruelty free" “natural” and/or “clean” deodorants that you will NEVER see in BODY & BOTANY products:
Alcohol denate - used as a stabilizer, emulsifier, preservative, & skin penetrator. Even if plant derived, it still contains ethanol & can cause excessive dryness & disturb the natural barrier on your skin, leading to irritation & redness over time.₁
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) - natural odor reducer that’s good for many people but an irritant to many others, especially with ongoing use due to it’s alkaline nature on our generally acidic skin. It is also broken down by water; so unfortunately, when you sweat, baking soda’s effectiveness will be reduced. We choose to omit it!₂
Ozokerite (aka Earth Wax, Mineral Wax or other Petroleum Wax) - used to provide hardness & spreadability to a deodorant stick. It sounds Earth friendly, but Ozokerite wax is deceivingly composed of paraffinic hydrocarbons mined from coal and shale. It is highly processed to transform it from its natural color state of black, is bad for our oceans & can possibly contain harmful contaminants.₃ ₄ ₅
Piroctone Olamine (or other Petrochemicals) - petrochemical from petroleum & natural gas…gross! Furthermore, being a known treatment for dandruff, it’s recommended that shampoos containing piroctone olamine not be used more than twice a week due to risk of irritation to the skin. Do your delicate pits deserve that? We think not.₆
Ethylhexylglycerine - naturally derived preservative, but unfortunately has been classified as a sensitizer and irritant.₇
Fragrance (or Parfum)- this could include many toxic ingredients since “fragrance” is an umbrella term given to synthetic fragrances that are made of Goddess knows!₈ ₉
Isododecane (or other silicones i.e. Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone) - 100% synthetic chemical-based silicone used to enhance the spreadability of a product…yuck!₁₀
PPG-15 stearyl ether - synthetic chemical used as a skin-conditioning ingredient. Potentially irritating.₁₁
Propylene glycol (or PEG's) - even if “biobased”, it is not a natural product because of the chemical conversion. It is also classified as a provoker of allergic reactions & irritation as well as other possible health concerns.₁₂ ₁₃
Mineral oils - used to help the spreadability of the product, but is made of 100% crude petroleum oil & is a carcinogen!₁₄ ₁₅
Phenoxyethanol - a naturally derived preservative that is known to cause allergic-type reactions on the skin.ٖ₁₆
Other Unpleasantries that we fortunately haven't seen in natural deodorants, but should be called out!
Aluminum - has a bad rap for being potentially involved in the formation of breast cancer.*₁₇
Diethanolamine - not only a skin irritant, it over time reacts with other ingredients forming nitrosodiethanolamine (NDEA), a known carcinogen.₁₈
Parabens - dangerous because of the way that they mimic estrogen. This could trigger abnormal levels of the hormone resulting in breast cell division & growth of tumors.₁₉ ₂₀
Phthalates - dangerous due to their anti-androgenic activity, which means they decrease testosterone. This could be detrimental to human development & health.PLUS, studies show they also increase risk of death from heart disease.₂₁ ₂₂
Sulfates (SLS, SLES) - known to be skin irritants & possibly contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, a known carcinogen.₂₃
Talc - worrisome due to its potential contamination with asbestos, which is linked with ovarian & testicular cancer.₂₄ ₂₅
Triclosan - can be found in deodorant due to its effect on killing odor-causing bacteria. Worrisome due to its potential to alter hormones, contribute to antibiotic resistance, & harmful effects on the immune system. ₂₆ ₂₇

Papaya
Papaya, so lovely & sweet, yet so powerful & exotic. Not only are Papaya Enzymes the source for our Probiotic, we also make use of Papaya Oil, which promotes cell regeneration & fights pigmentation!
It has antioxidant, anti aging, anti acne, & anti dermatitic properties, meaning it is just lovely for your skin...& pits!
Calendula
Calendula has been historically used by those who came before us to calm & soothe skin, as well as repair damage done by that nasty inflammation.
Rich in flavonoids & saponins, Calendula can help promote healing, prevent tissue degeneration & protect the skin from free-radicals.
Aloe
Aloe is just fabulous! It has been used topically since ancient times for its skin soothing properties.
It is full of vitamins, minerals, & anti inflammatory compounds, making it an ideal ingredient for any skin type.
Elderberry
Elderberry has long been used medicinally for its antioxidant & anti-inflammatory properties.
In body care, Elderberry can help protect us from pesky free radicals, tighten skin, & provide broad antimicrobial benefits.
Candelilla Wax
100% plant wax that provides a hardness to make our Pit Petioles™ easy to use without the mess.
We also choose this plant wax because it is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores!
It's also a rich source of Vitamin A, which helps promote cell regeneration!
Diatomaceous Earth
Ancient fossils of mineral-rich algae help neutralize odor & absorb excess moisture.
Diatomaceous Earth works to draw out toxins & heavy metals from the body, ridding us of harmful elements.

This noteworthy Prebiotic works in partnership with the good bacteria found in your skin flora.
It helps skin to thrive & promotes an unwelcoming environment for the bad bacteria that causes odor.
Lactobacillus
Probiotic from papaya.
Probiotics have been shown to assist with body odor control by encouraging good bacteria to grow so the smelly kind does not!
Lactobacillus from papaya doubles as a skin soother & exfoliator, leaving skin soft & renewed!
Zinc Ricinoleate
This wondrous element comes from the zinc salt of ricinoleic acid, a nourishing fatty acid found in the seeds of the Castor plant!
It works by trapping & absorbing pesky odor molecules, making them essentially imperceptible to the odor receptors in your wee nose. How sweet!
Dead Sea Salts that naturally neutralize odor & skin Ph.
